BM Fertilizers

Past studies conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkey have revealed that soil chemical and physical composition has been deteriorating owing to incorrect agricultural practices, which mostly relates to the excessive and continous use of chemical fertilizers. It has been documented that organic content of our soil has diminished to almost negligible values, where trace elements vital to crop growth such as iron and zinc are also lacking. As a consequence, crop yields from Turkish fields are steadily dropping with each passing year (*) The only sustainable solution to this problem is based on a quick return to organic fertilizers with high carbon content. On the other hand, unreliable and unstable supply of raw materials for organic fertilizer production has significantly limited the local supply, where low mineral content of the limited production has likewise limited their use.

In line with its expansion strategy in the biomass energy generation sector, BM has also initiated a venture in order to pursue production of related bio-fertilizers. Extensive R&D and product development work have thereon led to the creation of the revolutional next generation organomineral fertilizers with very high organic and mineral content.

BM is currently constructing three organic fertilizer production plants working in tandem with its three biomass power plants. The combined fertilizer production capacity is estimated at around 150,000 tonnes per year, with a unique steady production that is also strategically distributed into the most prominent agricultural zones. With this venture, BM sincerely hopes to steer Turkish agricultural practices into a much more efficient path.

The locations and technical details of these plants as well as the fertilizer products are currently being kept undisclosed until pending IP registration has been properly completed. However, energy generation licence applications for two have already been approved by EMRA and the projects are in the final design stage.

BM also owns and operates Turkey's most comprehensive bio-energy pilot facility in Gölbaşı, Ankara. The product of an extensive R&D effort, this bio-energy pilot was constructed for the purpose of trial-running and optimizing existing biogass production, AD fermentation and organic fertilizer enrichment methods. Most importantly, the facility will also enable early trial runs and formula optimization of the fertilizer product prior to market entry.
